In celebration of National Philanthropy Day, and in recognition of her Changemaker of the Year Award by the Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties, ARM President and CEO Angela Mitchell was featured on WJLA's Good Morning Washington show.
In addition to her role as the head of ARM Consulting, Mitchell is also the co-founder of the nonprofit Women Inspiring Girls and Women in STEM Excellence (WISE), was the Immediate Past Chair of the Loudoun Coalition on Women and Girls, and is the rising Chair of the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
"Loudoun was really ready to really embrace diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA), and I was really happy to be the person to kind of shepherd those messages through," Mitchell explained. "I'm really proud of the way the community coming together to make a change, and not make it about giving less, but really making sure everyone has equity."
Through Mitchell's current role as the Vice Chair of the Loudoun Chamber's Board of Directors, Mitchell has helped spearhead multiple DEIA Summits, bringing in national speakers and thought leaders to guide the conversations and provide perspective.
"It has really brought the community together, from all walks of life, to come together and really share their experiences and learn more," she added. "I think representation matters. First and foremost, for people to see a woman - but not just a woman - a woman of color. And not just a woman of color - but an African American woman - to lead the Chamber in one of the wealthiest counties in the United States.
"And really figure out a way to bring people together to talk about business and make it equitable for all. That's going to be my mission: to make sure people have opportunities to start a business, to grow their business, and soar their business."
